Green Tea Weight Loss Blog
Green tea is all the rage these
days. Why shouldn't it be? It is full of those magical antioxidant properties
called polyphenols. The Chinese have known about the benefits of green tea for
a very long time. It is about time the rest of us clued into these benefits.
Green tea is linked to weight loss which is what has made it so popular in
recent years. Research shows other potential benefits to include prevention of
cancer, reduction in the risk of heart disease, and a whole host of other
health benefits.
With green tea being so popular
there is no shortage of brands on the market. One of those brands is Lipton
Diet Green Tea. This sounds good. But is it really all it's cracked up to be?
Let's take a closer look. First of all why does there need to be a diet
version? Tea, in and of itself, is calorie free. There is nothing to it. So,
why diet? Because Lipton's regular green tea is full of high fructose corn
syrup which spikes the calorie level. Lipton's version of green tea is
basically no different than drinking soda.
So, what is in Lipton Diet Green
Tea? A whole lot of extras for something that is supposedly natural. Tea is
tea. You brew it and there you have it. But Lipton's tea is full of extras like
sodium benzoate which some researchers have linked to leukemia when it is
paired with citric acid. That potentially harmful combination is found in this
tea. Lipton Diet Green Tea also contains coloring agents as well as other
preservatives. The diet version does not have high fructose corn syrup.
However, that does not make it healthy or a good way to get green tea into your
diet.
If you want to add green tea to your
diet then add 100% pure green tea. If you need it sweetened then maybe add a
little honey or a touch of citrus juice. The majority of green teas available
in the market are full of artificial sweeteners and added flavors to mask the
actual taste of the green tea. The truth is most people do not like green tea
but they want to. Most people don't know any better so they buy these brands
like Lipton Diet Green Tea and think they're doing something beneficial for
their health. They're not.
Most of the preservatives contained
in these bottled teas are linked to a variety of health problems. So, by
drinking these teas you're actually counter acting the benefits that you'd get
from the green tea. In reality, these bottled teas are less green tea than they
are a whole lot of other hard to pronounce ingredients. To get the myriad of
benefits from green tea the best thing one can do is brew their own.
